Ghamaan di raat lahmi eh.
Ja mere geet lahme ne,
Na bhedi raat mukdi eh,
Na mere geet mukde ne.e sar kihne ku Doonge ne,
Kise ne hath na paayi,
Na barsaataan ‘ch charde ne,
Te na auraan ‘ch sukhde ne.Mere had hi avahle ne,
Jo ahg laaiyaan nahi sarde,
Ne sarde haukeyaan de naal,
Haavaan naal dhukde ne.Eh phat han ishk de yaaron
Ehna di ki dava hove,
Eh hath laaiyaan vi dukhde ne,
Malham laaiyaan vi dukhde ne.Je gori raat hae chann di,
Te kaali raat hae kis di?
Na lukde taareyaan vich chann,
Na taare chann ‘ch lukde ne

ਗ਼ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਲੰਮੀ ਏ
ਜਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੀਤ ਲੰਮੇ ਨੇ ।
ਨਾ ਭੈੜੀ ਰਾਤ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ,
ਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੀਤ ਮੁੱਕਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਇਹ ਸਰ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਕੁ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਨੇ
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਹਾਥ ਨਾ ਪਾਈ,
ਨਾ ਬਰਸਾਤਾਂ ‘ਚ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਨੇ
ਤੇ ਨਾ ਔੜਾਂ ‘ਚ ਸੁੱਕਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਡ ਹੀ ਅਵੱਲੇ ਨੇ
ਜੋ ਅੱਗ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੜਦੇ
ਨਾ ਸੜਦੇ ਹਉਕਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ
ਹਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਧੁਖਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਇਹ ਫੱਟ ਹਨ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦੇ ਯਾਰੋ
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀ ਦਵਾ ਹੋਵੇ
ਇਹ ਹੱਥ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਵੀ ਦੁਖਦੇ ਨੇ
ਮਲ੍ਹਮ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਵੀ ਦੁਖਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਜੇ ਗੋਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ ਚੰਨ ਦੀ
ਤਾਂ ਕਾਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ?
ਨਾ ਲੁਕਦੇ ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਨ
ਨਾ ਤਾਰੇ ਚੰਨ ‘ਚ ਲੁਕਦੇ ਨੇ ।
ਗ਼ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਲੰਮੀ ਏ
ਜਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੀਤ ਲੰਮੇ ਨੇ ।
ਨਾ ਭੈੜੀ ਰਾਤ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ,
ਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੀਤ ਮੁੱਕਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਇਹ ਸਰ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਕੁ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਨੇ
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਹਾਥ ਨਾ ਪਾਈ,
ਨਾ ਬਰਸਾਤਾਂ ‘ਚ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਨੇ
ਤੇ ਨਾ ਔੜਾਂ ‘ਚ ਸੁੱਕਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਡ ਹੀ ਅਵੱਲੇ ਨੇ
ਜੋ ਅੱਗ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੜਦੇ
ਨਾ ਸੜਦੇ ਹਉਕਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ
ਹਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਧੁਖਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਇਹ ਫੱਟ ਹਨ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦੇ ਯਾਰੋ
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀ ਦਵਾ ਹੋਵੇ
ਇਹ ਹੱਥ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਵੀ ਦੁਖਦੇ ਨੇ
ਮਲ੍ਹਮ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਵੀ ਦੁਖਦੇ ਨੇ ।ਜੇ ਗੋਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ ਚੰਨ ਦੀ
ਤਾਂ ਕਾਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ?
ਨਾ ਲੁਕਦੇ ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਨ
ਨਾ ਤਾਰੇ ਚੰਨ ‘ਚ ਲੁਕਦੇ ਨੇ ।
English Translation:
Long is the night of sorrows
Or long mine mournful song
This damned night has no end
Nor stops the flow of my songs
How deep do these waters run?
Who has touched the surface?
No rains urge an overflow
No drought could run them dry
My bones have a rot to them
They burn not in flames
Nor do sighs melt them
Nor does wind set them alight
These be the ‘wounds of love’ friends
They find no cures never
If ye touch them they smart
If ye soothe with balms, they smart
This fair night is the moon’s
But who owns the dark night?
The Moon hides not amidst stars
Nor could stars hide within the Moon
